Acne is one of the most common skin diseases, but not everyone looks the same and not everyone has the same causes. We most often encounter acne vulgaris<\/strong> and rosacea<\/strong> – two conditions that are sometimes confused with each other. While they may appear similar at first glance, they actually require completely different approaches to care and treatment. <\/p>

Why is it so important to be able to distinguish between them? Let’s find out. <\/p>

Acne vulgaris – most common in young people<\/strong><\/h3>
Acne<\/strong> vulgaris is a disease that up to 80-90% of teenagers, as well as many adults, struggle with.<\/h5>
What does it look like?<\/strong><\/h5>
  • Open and closed blackheads,<\/li>
  • Papules and pustules,<\/li>
  • In more severe forms – painful cysts and acne scars.<\/li><\/ul>

    The lesions appear most often on the face, back and chest.<\/p>

    Why is it being created?<\/strong><\/h5>
    • excessive sebum production,<\/li>
    • hormonal disorders,<\/li>
    • The proliferation of Cutibacterium acnes<\/em> bacteria,<\/li>
    • Diet and lifestyle (sugar, dairy, stress).<\/li><\/ul>

      Although acne vulgaris usually resolves with age, it can persist into adulthood in some people.<\/p>

      Acne rosacea – an adult problem<\/strong><\/h3>
      Acne<\/strong> rosacea is a chronic skin condition that usually appears after the age of 30. It most often affects fair-skinned women, but also occurs in men – often in a more severe form. <\/h5>
      What does it look like?<\/strong><\/h5>
      • Constant or paroxysmal facial redness,<\/li>
      • dilated and visible blood vessels,<\/li>
      • Papules and pimples, but no blackheads<\/strong>,<\/li>
      • A burning sensation and skin sensitivity.<\/li><\/ul>

        The lesions are located mainly on the face: nose, cheeks, forehead, chin.<\/p>

        What exacerbates the symptoms?<\/strong><\/h5>
        • UV radiation,<\/li>
        • Alcohol and spicy foods,<\/li>
        • sudden changes in temperature,<\/li>
        • Stress and strong emotions.<\/li><\/ul>

          Acne rosacea is chronic, with periods of exacerbation and remission.<\/p>

          Why is the distinction so important?<\/strong><\/h3>

          Whether one is dealing with acne vulgaris or rosacea is of great importance, as the treatment is quite different<\/strong>:<\/p>

          • Acne vulgaris<\/strong>: applications include. Retinoids, antibiotics, hormone treatment, seboregulating cosmetics.<\/li>
          • Acne rosacea<\/strong>: anti-inflammatory medications, sun protection, gentle care and avoiding triggers are key here.<\/li><\/ul>

            Importantly – strong drying or exfoliating preparations (often used in acne vulgaris) can worsen the skin condition in rosacea<\/strong>.<\/p>

            Summary<\/strong><\/h3>

            Although the two types of acne are sometimes confused, acne vulgaris and rosacea are two different diseases<\/strong> – with different causes, symptoms and treatment. That’s why it’s so important not to self-diagnose, but to go to a dermatologist when in doubt.<\/p>
