Small changes, big results. How does daily hygiene determine the success of dermatological therapy?

Investing in the highest quality dermocosmetics is the foundation of problematic skin care. However, it is worth remembering that even the most advanced formulas and selected plant extracts will not be able to develop their full potential if we forget the basics. For sensitive, acne-prone (both with acne vulgaris and rosacea) and reactive complexions, the environment the skin comes into contact with during the day is crucial. Sometimes small modifications to daily hygiene habits can dramatically accelerate the healing process and calm inflammation.

1. sleep for beauty: why change the pillowcase every 2 days?

While we sleep, our skin regenerates intensively, but also sweats, secretes sebum and exfoliates dead skin. The pillowcase, which absorbs all this every night, combined with the residue of hair products, becomes an ideal environment for the proliferation of bacteria (including Cutibacterium acnes) and mites.

Solution: For those struggling with active acne or severe erythema, we recommend changing the pillowcase every 2, maximum 3 days. Choose smooth and airy materials, such as silk or high-quality cotton, which minimize mechanical friction of the epidermis.

2. towels and underwear – temperature matters

The classic thick bathroom towel, which hangs in a warm and humid room, is unfortunately one of the biggest threats to the microbiome of problematic skin. Moisture promotes the growth of fungi and microorganisms. The same is true of underwear in the case of skin problems on the body.

Solution: bath towels and underwear in direct contact with skin lesions should be washed at a minimum of 60°C. This is the thermal threshold needed to effectively kill bacteria, mites and remove resistant lipid residues. Also, forgo highly perfumed fabric softeners – they can settle in the fibers and cause contact dermatitis.

3. wipe your face differently – the power of disposability

The simplest, and most revolutionary, step in acne skin care is to give up wiping your face with a cloth towel altogether.

Solution: After washing our mild cleansing foam off your face, use disposable tissues or soft paper towels to dry your skin. Dry your face in spots by gently applying the paper to the skin, avoiding any rubbing. This ensures absolute sterility and no transfer of bacteria.

4. cotton swabs and application hygiene

Make sure that any accessories that come into contact with the face are crystal clear. It’s best to apply lotions and toners with disposable, clean cotton balls or to pat them in directly with clean hands. Also, regularly disinfect the smartphone screens you apply to your cheeks every day!

Summary: Holistic skin care is a combination of the advanced science encapsulated in MCS Laboratory cosmetics and your conscious daily routine. These few simple, hygienic steps will create a sterile, safe “canvas” on which our day and night creams can work with redoubled force.
